Jesus answered, “today—yes, tonight—before the rooster crows twice
you yourself will disown me three times.” But Peter insisted
emphatically, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown
you.” And all the others said the same. (Mark 14: 29-31)
Peter is a rugged successful fisherman who is constantly taking the
lead. He asks questions, gives unsolicited advice, and leaps from a
boat to join Jesus walking on the water. With this personality, can’t
you see him proclaiming his devotion to the Lord?
I love Peter because he was so much like I am, questioning, giving
advice, although I have never leapt from a boat—I’m not that brave.
In my life I have also said there are things I would never do—but
guess what? I’ve done those very things.
Peter accepts Christ’s love, forgiveness and grace. He goes on to
become a new person and his letters reflect this change. Read the
Epistles of Peter and see.
I, too, can go on with my warts and all because I, too, have been
forgiven, not once, not twice, but over and over which I pray changes
me too.
Two of my favorite verses are in 1 Peter 5: verses 6 and 7:
“Humble yourselves, therefore under God’s mighty hand that He may
lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety upon Him because He
cares for you.”
